Keep Moving Forward

Writer: Ruth JacksonRuth Jackson

I'm reminded of one of my favorite animated movies called Meet the Robinsons that came out in 2007. Mr. Robinson's motto was "Keep moving forward." I think that this phrase is something to have in mind when starting a new year because even though we must learn from the past in order to better our future, it doesn't do anyone any good to live in the past. The future is what we should focus on because that's something we can change for the better.

Unfortunately, every once in awhile something will happen that reminds me of high school. I would venture to say that not everyone LOVED high school. I was one of those who hated it with great disdain. I didn't know who I was or who I wanted to be. I tried to be everyone else at first, then realized halfway through that it was a total waste of time. All four years, I was bullied for various reasons, most of which I couldn't change even if I wanted. I wasn't super popular. I didn't like going to parties. In fact, my solace was found in writing. That made me happy, but sadly there was no one who shared or understood that joy.

In relation to the motto about moving forward, I'm making it my mission to think less of events that scared me in more ways than one, and more about the writer I am and inspire to be. I still strive to be a NY Times Bestseller and along the way make my writing known through contests and publications. I can't imagine doing anything else with my life and if anyone else has a problem with my passion, too bad. This is me. Keep moving forward.
