Bullying

Writer: Ruth JacksonRuth Jackson

Some don't realize the repercussions of their actions nor realize that words can indeed hurt deeply. This is no laughing matter. Seriously.

There are many reasons as to why someone decides to bully another. This isn't to say that some are excused from their behavior simply because of their rotten home life or if they are feeling alone. There is no excuse whatsoever to bully someone!

In all walks of life, one can find a bully. Doesn't matter the age or the type of place. Or even whether the person is religious or not. Bullies come in all shapes and sizes. It saddens me very deeply that in order for people to feel good about themselves, they must put others down. This is not how we should treat others regardless of whether or not we like them or not. People should be allowed to be who they are without feeling shamed.

I want to reach out to those who are bullied and are bullies alike and remind them that this is not something to be taken lightly. We all need to look out for everyone, not force them to go home crying or feel unappreciated. Differences should make us curious and want to learn about their culture, disability or whatever it may be, not shun them.

It's a "shake-my-head" moment when I find out that a famous person, whether in Disney or the science world, was bullied at a young age. My theory is that the people who are ostracized are the ones who go on to do great things. Take Ben Carson, the famous neurologist, or Demi Levato, the triple threat, or even Einstein. Don't let your differences hold you back! Instead, persevere and show those bullies what you're made of. You may not realize it now, but you will :)

Bullying has weighed heavily on my mind since the days following high school because it happened to me from first grade until senior year. This is one cause I will hold close to my heart because I can feel today's kids' pain. Nobul Apparel is one such company I "joined forces" with because of what they stand for. I now write for their blog and hope to continue the push for more bullying awareness campaigns to be integrated in more school systems throughout the world.

This pain, suicide actions and the rest need to stop, and those who know the grief and who care enough to help can make a difference in someone's life.
